KS1/P1-3 lesson plans

Generation Green is a cross-curricular resource, with an emphasis on Active Citizenship and Personal Responsibility. It also supports the NFSS and Eco-Schools initiatives. The tabs below show how each lesson links into the Key Stage 1 and P1-3 curricula.

These 8 lessons and the assembly have the ultimate aim of making pupils aged 5-7 years old aware of where energy comes from and the effect its use has on the environment.

KS1/P1-3 Assembly Plan

Wind and Water Power

The aim of this lesson is to introduce 5 to 7 year old pupils to the power of wind and water and how their energy can be harnessed to make electricity.

In this very practical lesson, pupils will think about the qualities of wind and water. Then, the class will make paper windmills that demonstrate how the wind can drive the ‘sails’ and power a turbine.

Finally, they will make a water turbine, which will turn using water poured from a watering can.

Learning objectives

  • To begin to understand alternative ways (wind and water) in which energy can be produced.
