Turn Down, Turn Off

The aim of this lesson is to make 5-7 year olds aware of things that use electricity and gas.

Pupils will also be encouraged to recognise that appliances use energy when they are switched on and when they are left on standby. Pupils will understand that switching off saves energy and reduces greenhouse gases and climate change.

Pupils will be encouraged to behave safely with electrical appliances.

Learning objectives

  • To know that it is important to save electricity, gas and water by switching off lights, televisions, computers and also taps.
  • To know that the appliances in houses can waste energy.
  • An object on standby is still using electricity, so switch it off.
