Energy waste and habits checks

This lesson is one in a series that prepares students for an energy audit of their school.

During this lesson students identify possible energy wasting habits. They then organise themselves into groups to carry out Habits Checks of the school building. Students need to identify how energy is being wasted in order to create an action plan for an awareness-raising campaign to reduce energy consumption. This investigation will help students to focus their awareness-raising campaign on the most persistent bad habits (e.g. lights being left on in empty rooms or classroom thermostats being set too high).

Learning objectives

  • To identify energy wasting habits.
  • To organise a Habits Check of the school building.
