Primary lesson plans

Setting the scene

The aim of this lesson is to introduce pupils to the process involved in turning fossil fuels into electricity.

Pupils will also look at how the use of electricity has increased over the past few decades and at the effects this might have on our environment.

This lesson has been designed as the first in a series of 8 lessons aimed at preparing pupils for an energy audit of their schools.

This lesson can be split into two shorter lessons:

  • How fossil fuels are turned into electricity.
  • How the increase in our use of electricity impacts the environment.

Learning objectives

  • To understand how fossil fuels are used to create electricity.
  • To understand that the use of electricity has increased and that this has an effect on our environment.
