What are our schools' energy habits?

This lesson is one in a series that supports and guides pupils through an energy audit of their school.

The aim of the assignment is to reduce the amount of energy being wasted in the school.

The findings of this investigation will help pupils to focus an energy awareness-raising campaign on the most persistent bad habits (e.g. lights being left on in empty rooms or classroom thermostats being set too high). Pupils will consider ways in which energy can be wasted and then carry out a ‘Habits Check’ of their school in order to identify energy wasting habits.

Learning objectives

  • Investigate ways in which energy can be wasted.
  • Carry out a ‘Habits Check’ of the school building, identifying sources of energy waste.
  • Consider ways in which we can reduce energy waste.
