Prizes

What are the prizes?
Generation Green is committing to giving away amazing prizes each term, which will help schools save energy, be more efficient, bring sustainability to life in schools, and also hopefully save you money on your energy bills.
Each term we will focus our lesson plans, activities and prizes on a certain theme ('Heat', 'Save' and 'Power'). For each theme we have a number of prizes to give away. For example, we will be giving away 25 sets of insulation for the 'Save Term', solar thermal and biomass boilers for Spring's 'Heat Term', and solar photovoltaic panels for the Summer's 'Power Term'. We also have a series of money-can't-buy experiences for the winners of our termly student competitions, giving your students an amazing, expenses-paid day out.
-
How do I win the prizes?
Entering the termly prize draw is simple and free. Every time you upload, download a lesson plan or complete an activity, you will receive one entry into our prize draw. At the end of each term, an independent judge will select entries at random, and the selected entrants will win the prizes. The more times you or your colleagues upload and/or download resources on the site in a term, the greater chance you have of winning. At the end of each term, all entries will be reset to zero.
-
What happens if my school is not suitable for installation?
All of our technologies require installation by British Gas engineers, and are subject to planning permission, permission with your school's building owner, or whoever can approve the installation. We will help you where we can with this process.
In the event that permission is not granted, or you are unable to install your prize, we will try to offer an alternative where we can. If this is not possible you can gift the prize to another building in your community (such as a charity, community building, town hall) who can benefit from it.
-
What are money-can't-buy experiences?
British Gas is fortunate to be able to offer schools a number of money-can't-buy experiences, such as visits to energy centres, wind farms and days out which bring sustainability alive, often in or near your local area. We will be giving these away to winners of our termly student competitions. -
Long term support / guarantees / what if something goes wrong?
Your school will own any of the technology prizes installed and will be able to keep all the savings, and any income that's earned from generating renewable heat or power. The school will be responsible for maintaining any technologies installed. However, many of the maintenance costs for this kind of technology is outweighed by the income/savings you'll get out of it.
-
What are the open and closing dates of the prize draws?
Each new term marks the start of a new prize draw period. The end of each term is when the prizes will be drawn. As term times can vary from local authority to local authority, and year on year, the exact dates will vary. Typically our term dates will be as follows:
- Autumn Term runs from the first week in September to the third week in December
- Spring Term runs from the first week in January to the last week in March
- Summer Term runs from the second week in April to the third week in July
-
