23rd September 2011: Cairney Primary School have a day out

As part of our Generation Green ‘money-can't-buy’ prizes 16 pupils from Cairney Primary School came along to visit the Glens of Foudland wind farm nr. Huntley, Aberdeen this week.

After a brief introduction to the wind farm from Matt Walsh, site manager of the wind farm, the pupils were taken on a route which allowed them to get up close to the 20 enormous turbines.  The pupils learnt all about the size and weight of the turbines, and how they work.

Fortunately, the Scottish weather was kind and stayed dry for the visit which allowed the children to explore and find items along the route which Matt brought to their attention at the start of the visit.

'The visit to the wind farm has really inspired the pupils.  We are seeing more and more wind farms being developed in this part of Aberdeen, in fact there is one going through planning permission very local to our School, so for the children to see one up close has been very beneficial’  Mrs Pike, Cairney Primary School.
