31st August: Weston Road High School have their insulation installed
Weston Road High School was one of our lucky 25 Generation Green winning Schools from the summer term who received up to £5,000 worth of insulation.
Mr John Gauntlett, site manager of the School was absolutely delighted when he found out that Generation Green was going to insulate 6 of his static classrooms as well as make good of the poorly filled cavity wall drill holes. “This prize is going to have a huge impact on the main School building which has been at risk of damp over the past 12 months. The drill holes had been so poorly filled by the company who installed the insulation some years ago that during the cold snap this year the filling has just disintegrated. To have the whole School re-pointed is just a dream come true for me as I can now put my efforts into maintaining other areas of the School. The loft insulation in the static classrooms will keep the staff and children much warmer in the coming winter months, as well as reducing our fuel bills”.
The loft insulation install to the 6 classrooms didn’t come without its complexities with the British Gas installers up against finding replacement suspended ceiling tiles before fitting any insulation. “The ceiling tiles are in a state of disrepair and are a unique size to the classroom’s a frame. We managed to source replacement tiles which enabled us to continue with laying the insulation” said one British Gas installer.
Weston Road High School is a mixed comprehensive School catering for pupils and sixth form students between the ages of eleven and eighteen with a total of 910 students. We hope that with the new ceiling tiles and loft insulation the classrooms will be a much brighter and warmer place to learn.
Watch out for news on the other Generation Green prize winners later on in the month.
