Workshop 3: Re-educate

We can all save the world, a little at a time, we just have to lose some of our current living habits and learn some new sustainable ones. Let’s get everyone thinking green all the time with our sustainable living workshop, Re-educate.

See how the Re-educate workshop got the Think Tankers rethinking how we live – and find out how you can get involved:

In the workshop at the end of the day, our Think Tankers were brimming with ideas to help everyone save energy and reduce climate change, including:

  • All schools must set clear carbon reduction targets
  • All schools should be able to see how much energy they’re using, so they can act to reduce it
  • All teachers, in all subjects, must be taught about the environment, so they can teach their pupils
  • Every school should have a green building plan, providing advice on ways they can save energy
  • Discrete eco-messages should be woven into television programmes and adverts, especially really popular ones
  • Schools should cut waste as much as possible by, for example, filling all the pages in their exercise books before starting a new one and emailing parents rather than sending letters
  • All schools should have access to extra green funding to help them implement energy-saving measures like solar panels and grass roofs
  • Organise an annual ‘Planet in Need’ national event (like ‘Children in Need’) to raise awareness of green issues, raise money for those already suffering from the effects of climate change, and challenge everyone to reduce their energy consumption.

Do you think that big events such as music concerts and sports events should be powered by renewable energy?
